Concerns are being raised over what appears to be conflicting information relating to Tuesday’s confiscated drug in Duazon on the Roberts International Airport Highway.
Since the Tuesday action, Liberians have been all ears to know the quantity and street values of the drug.
Late Wednesday, July 22,2026, the government of Liberia through Justice Minister Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh told citizens that the drug seized is 3,971 kilograms of processed plates of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of approximately US$317,680,000.
The figure announced by Justice Minister Tweh contradicts what the BBC earlier attributed to the Inspector General of Police, Gregory OW Coleman.
At the same time, FrontPage Africa reported slightly closer to the account of Justice Minister Tweh.
The accounts are conflicting thus raising questions about the truthfulness of the statements or the falsity.
Opposition politicians have been pointing fingers at some government officials, security forces as being linked to the drug.
Two of such figures are former Montserrado County Representative Acarous Moses Gray and Foday N. Massaquio who both have publicly called on international securities experts to get involved in the investigation to ensure that the government doesn’t leave any stone unturned.
Gray said on his verified social media page that, “Unity Party Government goes into self destruction as security forces get entangled into the Cocaine Cartel. God is exposing these criminals of a government.
NARCO STATE.”
As for Massaquio, he stated the disparity in the statements and said, “Exposed” indicating that the government is lying about what he believes is almost a billion United States Dollars.
“When three officials lied to the nation and even BBC about a simple number, then it’s impossible to trust them about investigating a transnational drugs network” he stated in a social media post.
Be as it may, the government of Liberia has said it is investigating the bust and will not let the people of Liberia down.
The official statement, Minister Tweh said two foreign nationals, identified as a Serbian national and the other with dual nationality (Colombian and Spanish) are currently in custody.
The Justice boss said those individuals’ names are being withheld at this stage to protect the integrity of the investigation and ongoing investigative activities.
The government said in addition to the suspected narcotics, investigators recovered several items considered relevant to the investigation.
Those items include diving suits, a firearm, GPS tracking devices, a drone, Starlink satellite internet equipment, and other materials.
“These items have been secured and are being examined to determine their purpose and potential connection to the suspected narcotics trafficking operation” Minister Tweh said.
Despite the conflicting statements, the government has indicated that the investigation remains active and is examining the origin, ownership, transportation method, and intended destination of the seized substances, as well as the identities and roles of all persons who may be connected to the operation. Investigators are also examining possible domestic and international networks, logistical arrangements, financial transactions, and any other forms of facilitation associated with the suspected shipment.
