-J.W.A. Richard High School Still Awaits Promised 150 Chairs, Hand Pump
By Mark N. Mengonfia
Today makes it exactly a year since the office of Dr. Thomas Nimene Tweh Jr., also known as “Original Country Man,” pledged 150 pieces of armchairs and the construction of a hand pump at the Julius Wilfred Alexander Richard High School (J.W.AR) in Louisiana Township.
The pledges were made October 31,2025 at a program making the dedication ceremony of a Three-Classroom Annex at the J.W.A Richard High School.
During the program, donations were made and the school administration received the keys to the three-classroom annex with the hope of receiving the pledges made by Christopher Neymar Vonziah on behalf of the office of Dr. Tweh Jr.
At the event, Vonziah said the next week following the pronouncement, the students would have received the chairs and work would have started on the hand pump.
Days turned to weeks, weeks became months and months turned into a year today and the school has yet to get any of the pledges made by the politician.
Recently, The Liberian Investigator reported that 722 students share 77 usable chairs at J.W.A. Richards School in Louisiana Township, the school that should have received 150 pieces of chairs from Dr. Tweh Jr.
It was also reported that the students who were unable to scramble for the limited seats were left with no option, but to use broken pieces of bricks.
At a recent Township meeting, the Principal of the school, S. Tayata Sirleaf made an open appeal to people of goodwill to come to the aid of the school.
“The school is currently faced with a shortage of seats for the learners. Students are now sitting on bricks, and the other students are sitting on planks or wawa wooden benches” the J.W.A.R Principal reported at the Township annual meeting.
He also told the gathering that the two hand pumps on the campus have spoiled and need renovation.
When he was asked about the pledges made by the office of Original Country Man, M. Sirleaf said he has made efforts to collect the promise, but his efforts have yielded no tangible results.
The principal also informed the gathering that the enrollment of the school has dramatically increased and seating is a major problem.
Not giving up, Principal Sirleaf made a passionate call to people of goodwill to urgently rescue J.W.A.R from its challenges.
He mentioned the district lawmaker Rugie Yatu Barry, Montserrado County Superintendent, Whroway Bryant, Township Commissioner Moses K. White, businesses in the township, concerned residents and Dr. Thomas N. Tweh jr, the same man who failed to fulfill his promise as people he is looking up to for help.
When contacted the office of Dr. Thomas N. Tweh jr, via WhatsApp messages and calls multiple times, his Chief of Staff failed to reply to any of the calls or messages.
As it is now, the school Original Country Man or Dr. Thomas N. Tweh jr, office made promises at is still in dying needs as learners are still sitting on bricks, planks or wawa wooden benches.
