Monrovia– The Liberia National Police has arrested CDC-COP Chairman, Foday Devine Massaquoi, one of the lead planners of the upcoming July 17 Protest.
He was declared wanted by the Monrovia City Court on charges of criminal coercion, terroristic threats, and menacing.
Although he is one of the lead planners of the ensuing protest, but Massaquoi’s arrest follows the issuance of a Writ of Arrest and an Order of Arrest signed on July 2, 2026, by Stipendiary Magistrate L. Ben Barco of the Monrovia City Court. The court directed law enforcement officers to apprehend Massaquoi and bring him before the court to face prosecution.
According to court documents filed by the Republic of Liberia through the National Port Authority (NPA), Massaquoi allegedly published a Facebook post on June 28, 2026, claiming that the Freeport of Monrovia was being used for cocaine trafficking.
The post also alleged a partnership involving NPA Managing Director Sekou Dukuly and another individual identified as Peter King in connection with alleged cocaine storage.
The court stated that the social media post attracted approximately 1,000 comments and was widely circulated online.
Prosecutors further allege that Massaquoi later held a press conference during which he made what they describe as false accusations against the NPA Managing Director and issued life-threatening statements.
According to the complaint, the alleged actions caused fear for the safety of the NPA Managing Director, prompted increased security measures, and limited his public movements.
