Paynesville-The Executive Director of HOPE Restored Foundation International, Amb. Maxson S. Kpakio, has called on the Liberian government and international partners, including the United States and the United Kingdom, to increase funding and logistical support for the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).
Speaking to journalists at his Paynesville residence, Kpakio said inadequate support is hampering the LDEA’s operations despite its continued efforts to combat drug trafficking.
He praised the agency for its commitment and resilience in the face of logistical challenges.
Kpakio, a member of the LDEA’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Board and a leading anti-substance abuse advocate, also welcomed progress in the investigation into the reported US$19 million drug case. He urged the public to support the investigation by providing useful information rather than making statements that could undermine the process.
He noted that intercepting the drugs in Liberia prevented greater damage to the country’s reputation had the shipment reached another nation.
On a separate issue, Kpakio commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. for supporting the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court. He also praised the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court, led by Cllr. Dr. Jallah A. Barbu, for completing and submitting draft legislation for both the proposed War and Economic Crimes Court and a National Anti-Corruption Court, describing the move as a significant step toward justice and accountability in Liberia.
