-Provides US$150 Cash Assistance, Essential Household Items to Affected Families
Margibi-The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has provided renewed hope to 150 flood-affected households in Margibi County through the distribution of cash assistance and assorted non-food items, as part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable communities impacted by flooding.
Under the humanitarian intervention, each beneficiary household received US$150 in cash, along with essential non-food items, including cooking pots, soap, buckets, mosquito nets, and other household supplies to help address immediate needs and improve living conditions.
The assistance forms part of the LNRCS’s ongoing humanitarian response to disaster-affected communities, with a focus on supporting vulnerable families as they recover from the devastating effects of flooding which hit several communities in August 2026.
Speaking during the distribution exercise in Israel Community, Lower Margibi County, LNRCS Community Accountability Assistant Moses Tamba reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Tamba emphasized that the Red Cross remains committed to ensuring that assistance reaches the most vulnerable people, while upholding transparency throughout the response process.
The intervention was funded by the Swedish Red Cross through its Initial Response Fund (IRF) and implemented by the Liberia National Red Cross Society.
Beneficiary communities include Mandingo Quarter, Sugar Hill, Bassa Town, Borlorla, Du-Ville, KRTTI, Buzzi Quarter, Francis Lewis, Mattiana, Peace Island, and Israel. These communities are located in Kakata and Mamba-Kaba, Margibi County.
For many residents, the intervention represents more than the provision of material assistance; it is a symbol of renewed hope, dignity, and solidarity following the hardship caused by flooding.
Among the beneficiaries was Arthur Ben, a visually impaired resident of Israel Community, who expressed appreciation to the Liberia National Red Cross Society for extending humanitarian support to his community.
Ben described the difficulties he faces during flooding, noting that rising water levels severely restrict his movement and ability to access food, particularly because of his visual impairment.
“I want to say thank you to the Red Cross for remembering us in the Israel Community. The situation we are going through is not easy. When the water floods this area, entering my room becomes like entering a river. As a visually impaired person, I have no easy way to go out and find food because of the water. This assistance has transformed my life. I hope this will not be the last time the Red Cross comes to help us,” he said.
The Liberia National Red Cross Society continues to work with its partners to respond to humanitarian emergencies, strengthen community resilience, and ensure that vulnerable populations receive timely, appropriate, and dignified assistance.
The intervention highlights the continued commitment of the Red Cross Movement and its partners to alleviating human suffering and restoring hope among disaster-affected families across Liberia.
