Monrovia-The Global Youth Development Council (GYDC) is set to mark its first anniversary in Liberia with a three-day celebration in Kakata City, Margibi County, highlighting a year of youth empowerment, leadership development, peacebuilding, community service, and environmental action.

The anniversary celebration is scheduled for October 15–17, 2026, at the Kakata City Hall, with approximately 300 youth delegates expected to participate from 15 communities.

According to GYDC, the anniversary will provide an opportunity to reflect on its programs and achievements during its first year in Liberia while launching what the organization describes as the next chapter of its youth development agenda.

Under its education and youth empowerment initiatives, GYDC says it has focused on leadership training, youth workshops, mentorship, and other programs aimed at equipping young people with knowledge and practical skills.

Ambassador Dr. Agnes Fortune-Cannon, African Continental President and Vice President Global of GYDC, said the anniversary represents an important moment for the organization to reflect on its work and strengthen its commitment to young people.

She said GYDC activities are centered on empowering youth to become active contributors to their communities through education, leadership, peacebuilding, environmental protection, and service.

She added that the organization remains committed to creating opportunities for young people while strengthening partnerships with communities and other stakeholders to advance youth development.

The organization also highlighted the contributions of its leadership team, which includes Ambassador Sohag Monahan Shong, Secretary General; Ambassador Gertrude C. Carter, President of the GYDC Liberia Chapter; Ambassador Dr. Agnes Fortune-Cannon, African Continental President and Vice President Global and Executive Director; and Ambassador Richard Jah, Vice President responsible for operations and youth program engagement.

GYDC says its leadership team has played an important role in coordinating and advancing the organization’s programs in Liberia.

The three-day celebration will begin on October 15 with an opening ceremony and youth parade.

On October 16, participants will take part in a Leadership Summit, community service activities, and tree-planting exercises designed to promote leadership, civic responsibility, and environmental awareness.

The anniversary program will conclude on October 17 with a Gala Awards and Closing Ceremony, where participants and contributors are expected to be recognized for their roles in advancing youth development and community service.

GYDC says the anniversary is intended not only to celebrate its first year of activities but also to strengthen partnerships and encourage young people to take active roles in leadership, peacebuilding, community development, and environmental protection.

The organization has invited youth, community leaders, partners, and other stakeholders to participate in the anniversary activities in Kakata.

As it enters its second year in Liberia, GYDC says it will continue to focus on youth empowerment, education, leadership, peace, environmental action, and service to humanity while expanding its activities and partnerships across the country.
