-Urged Students Not To Allow Their WASSCE Results Discourage them

Monrovia-Twenty-five students of Cheerful Givers High School in Montserrado County who were unsuccessful in the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have received a second chance to continue their educational journey, following a financial intervention by the school’s proprietor, Bishop Nimley Jarboklay Donyen.
Bishop Donyen has committed LD$225,000 to cover the full registration fees for the affected students to sit the upcoming private candidate examination, commonly referred to as the “re-sitter.”
The intervention came shortly after the release of the 2026 WASSCE results, which reportedly left the students, their parents, and the school administration concerned about the financial burden of registering for another examination.
For some parents who had already been preparing for their children’s graduation, the unexpected examination costs created an additional financial challenge.
Speaking during the intervention, Bishop Donyen assured the students that his support would not necessarily end with the payment of their examination fees.
He encouraged the students to communicate with him if they encounter additional challenges while preparing for or taking the examination.
“Even when you’re through the process and any of you need money for additional things, let me know. With the grace of God, we’ll fully support you to do the test again,”Bishop Donyen said.
Parents of the affected students upon receiving the money, welcomed the intervention, describing it as a major relief at a time when many families are already struggling to meet their daily financial obligations.
They said the situation had been particularly difficult because families had already been looking forward to their children’s graduation before the examination results altered those plans.
The parents expressed appreciation to Bishop Donyen, saying his intervention had removed a significant financial burden from affected families.
For her part, the Principal of Cheerful Givers High School, Esther W. Doryen, also expressed appreciation to Bishop Donyen for taking responsibility for the examination fees.
She said the intervention has provided relief to the students and their parents while reducing the financial pressure associated with the upcoming examination.
Doryen encouraged the affected students to take the second opportunity seriously and dedicate themselves to thorough preparation ahead of the private candidate examination.
Bishop Donyen, meanwhile, urged the students not to allow their WASSCE results to discourage them.
He encouraged them to view the upcoming examination as an opportunity to correct their mistakes, regain confidence, and continue pursuing their educational goals.
Bishop Donyen, who also heads the Independent Catholic Church of Liberia (ICCL), called on the students to remain hopeful, focused, and committed to their education.
