The Public Prosecution Service in the Netherlands has increased the reward for the decisive tip that leads to the arrest of Jos Leijdekkers to two million euros (€2,000,000).

Jos Leijdekkers is one of those linked to Liberia millions of drug trafficking cases.

A report published by on.nl says  since the summer of 2024, law enforcement authorities have known that the 35-year-old fugitive is staying in Sierra Leone. Leijdekkers’ arrest is the highest priority for the Public Prosecution Service and the police. Anyone who can provide information that leads to Leijdekkers’ arrest may qualify for this exceptional reward.

Jos Leijdekkers is one of Europe’s most wanted fugitives. In Sierra Leone, he is also known by the name “Omar Sheriff.” Jos Leijdekkers is regarded as one of the main players in the international cocaine trade. On 25 June 2024, the Rotterdam District Court sentenced Leijdekkers to 24 years in prison for six drug shipments totaling nearly 7,000 kilograms of cocaine, an armed robbery in Finland, and ordering a killing. The court also ordered Leijdekkers’ immediate arrest. The police are also investigating other cases in which Leijdekkers is suspected of involvement. Finally, Leijdekkers has also been sentenced in Belgium to 79 years in prison.

The Ministry of Justice has approved a tenfold increase in the reward. The €2,000,000 reward is available for the decisive tip that leads to the arrest of Jos Leijdekkers. The reward can be paid out a few days after his arrest. This money is therefore intended for the person who makes Jos Leijdekkers’ arrest possible-for example, by reporting when he makes which journeys and at which moments there are opportunities to arrest him, for instance because he is at locations outside Sierra Leone. Information about Jos Leijdekkers can be shared by the tipster with a special team of the Dutch police. It is safe to share information through these channels, and information can be shared in any preferred format and language. The information and the identity of the tipster will be treated by this team as strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone else, including other police teams or the authorities in Sierra Leone. In this way, the tipster is and remains carefully protected.

The National Investigation and Intervention Unit (LO), together with other police services and multiple domestic and international partners, is searching for Jos Leijdekkers. The National Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Prosecution Service (OM) directs the investigation.
