โ€Ž— Meets LEGISPOOL & PUL for Possible Collaboration

Monrovia โ€”House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon on Thursday held a conciliatory meeting with the Legislative Press Pool (LEGISPOOL) and the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), days after issuing a public apology in the House Chambers for remarks perceived as threatening toward journalists.โ€Žโ€Ž

The high level engagement brought together LEGISPOOL President Emmanuel T. J. Kollie, PUL President Julius Kanubah, House Press Director Ambassador Robert Haynes, and Speaker Koonโ€™s Media Advisor, Vehzelee Sumo.

The discussion centered on strengthening cooperation between the Legislature and accredited reporters assigned to the Capitol.โ€Žโ€Ž

Speaker Koon reiterated his apology, clarifying that he had no intention of threatening members of the press or undermining their work.

He emphasized his commitment to maintaining a respectful, professional, and transparent environment for journalists covering proceedings of the House of Representatives.โ€Žโ€Ž

Both LEGISPOOL President Kollie and PUL President Kanubah acknowledged the Speakerโ€™s apology but stressed the importance of safeguarding press freedom and ensuring that the working relationship between lawmakers and the media remains grounded in mutual respect.

They noted that journalists play a critical role in promoting openness and accountability within the Legislature.โ€Žโ€Ž

The meeting ended on a constructive note, with all parties agreeing to enhance dialogue and foster improved coordination between the House leadership and the press corps.
