Monrovia, Liberia- The Liberian National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 marked World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026 with a call for enhanced workplace safety, particularly regarding mental health, climate risks, and first aid.
The event, held at CAPE Hotel in central Monrovia, emphasizes safety as a core humanitarian value under the theme “Building a Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment in the Workplace.
Col. Warsuwah Barvoul Sr., Director General of the Liberia National Fire Service, stresses the importance of prioritizing occupational safety and healthy psychosocial working environments in his keynote address.
“Safety at our workplaces is a shared responsibility,” Col. Barvoul emphasizes urging stakeholders to take concrete actions to prevent workplace hazards.
National Society Development Officer, Mr. Sigmund R. Holt, reaffirms the LNRCS’s commitment to creating safe working environments for staff, volunteers, and communities.
“The Liberian National Red Cross and partners observe World Safety and Health at Work Day as an important occasion to reaffirm its commitment to creating a safe and secure working environment,” Holt says.
A first-aid practical demonstration showcases response techniques for emergencies, including checking for breathing, calling for help, and performing CPR. Participants are encouraged to strengthen a culture of preparedness, prevention, and accountability.
The LNRCS emphasizes psychosocial risks, such as stress and burnout, as hazards as significant as physical dangers.
The organization urges partners to invest in preventive measures, training, and awareness, promoting protection, resilience, and dignity in workplaces.
Stakeholders from various sectors, including government agencies, NGOs, and private companies, gather to highlight the importance of collaboration in promoting workplace safety.
