‎Monrovia -The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) is making preparations for the March 2026 “Kpongama” Conference.

‎‎“Kpongama,” a term derived from the Kpelle language, means “gathering.”

‎‎As part of the planning process for the National Fisheries and Investment Conference, the institution has trained approximately twenty Liberian journalists on how to cover and report on the upcoming event.‎‎

Award-winning journalist Frank Sainworla of News Public Trust and Atty. Alpha Daffae Senkpeni of The Local Voices led the training, refreshing journalists on best practices in reporting international conferences, fact-checking, and providing accurate information to the public.‎‎

The journalists were drawn from several media institutions, including the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), LUX FM, Prime FM, Okay FM, and Punch FM. Other participating media outlets included The Local Daily, Women TV, County Diary, DN News TV, Heritage, FrontPage Africa, The Liberian Investigator, Daily Observer, The New Dawn, and The Inquirer, among others.‎‎

Speaking during the training and the subsequent launch of NaFAA’s website, NaFAA Director General J. Cyrus Saygbe said the activities are all part of preparations for the conference and beyond.

‎‎DG Saygbe expressed satisfaction that the conference is attracting significant attention, noting that participants from several countries have already registered to attend the March 30-31 fisheries conference.‎‎

The highly anticipated conference will be convened under the theme: “Unlocking the Blue Horizons: Investing in Liberia’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Future.”‎‎

Speaking about the website, DG Saygbe explained that the authority’s previous website experienced technical challenges, making the development of a new one necessary.‎‎

He emphasized that NaFAA aims to remain accountable to the public and transparent in its operations; therefore, creating an easy-to-navigate and accessible website was essential.

‎‎DG Saygbe encouraged the public to make maximum use of the rebranded platform.

‎‎According to him, the rebranded website, developed under the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project (LSMFP), will make it easier for the public to access important information about fisheries and aquaculture in Liberia.‎‎
