‎The Association of Liberia Community Radio (ALICOR) has lauded the House of Representatives for the historic passage of the “Act for the Ownership, Management, Licensing, Sustainability, and Operations” of Community Radio Stations in Liberia. ‎‎

The landmark legislation marks a significant step forward in strengthening grassroots communication, promoting media freedom, and empowering rural communities with reliable, independent, and accessible information.‎‎

Act for the Ownership, Management, Licensing, Sustainability, and Operations of Community Radio Stations in Liberia demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing democratic participation, enhancing community development as well as safeguarding the role of community radio as a vital platform for civic engagement and national cohesion.

‎‎ALICOR however commended lawmakers, civil society partners, media advocates, and community stakeholders who contributed to shaping the legislation.‎‎

The Act provides a clear regulatory framework that will improve licensing processes, ensure sustainability, promote professionalism, and protect the integrity of community broadcasting nationwide. ‎‎

Meanwhile, ALICOR calls on the Liberian Senate to swiftly concur with the legislation, solidifying the legal foundation needed to strengthen community radio institutions and expand their impact across all counties.‎‎

In an era where accurate information and community-driven dialogue are essentials, the Act will help safeguard Liberia’s democracy and support inclusive national development. ‎‎

The Association of Liberia Community Radio reaffirms its readiness to work collaboratively with government institutions, development partners, and all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of its new legal framework once enacted.
