— Condemns Excessive Force, Abuse, or Conduct ‎ ‎

Monrovia -The Liberia National Police (LNP) says it is aware of a video circulating on social media showing an off-duty officer of the Police Support Unit (PSU) allegedly striking a female individual with a stick, resulting in her apparent loss of consciousness.

‎The LNP said the footage has caused public concern, which it acknowledges and takes seriously.‎

A release signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Cecelia G Clarke says LNP condemns unequivocally any act of excessive force, abuse, or conduct that violates the law, human dignity, and the standards of professional policing.‎

“Such actions, if established, are incompatible with the values, discipline, and public-service mandate of the Liberia National Police” the release said.‎

The police said while a formal complaint has yet been filed by the victim or her family, the LNP has acted proactively and without delay, in keeping with its statutory responsibilities and internal accountability framework.‎

“The officer involved has been identified, taken into custody, and referred to the Professional Standards Division, where a full investigation is underway” the release indicated.

‎Accordingly, the LNP says investigation will be thorough, impartial, and evidence-based;  conducted strictly in accordance with established procedures and the law.

‎The police say all parties are entitled to due process stating that upon conclusion of the investigation, appropriate administrative and legal actions will be taken, consistent with the findings.

‎“The Liberia National Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy toward police brutality and misconduct” the release stated.‎

LNP said they remain committed to upholding human rights and lawful use-of-force standards, enforcing internal discipline and accountability, strengthening supervision, training, and oversight, maintaining transparency and rebuilding public trust.

‎The LNP assures the public that misconduct, whether on or off duty, will not be shielded, excused, or ignored.
