The Liberia Football Association (LFA), with support from FIFA through the FIFA Women’s Football Development Programme, on Friday, 28 November launched its Women’s Football Campaign at Jacob’s Town Field in Paynesville.
The campaign focuses on girls age 6-12 it aims to bring more girls and women into the game and is designed to support associations in delivering grassroots and small-sided football events to boost participation by providing a space free play where players can feel included, have fun and be inspired.
Over 300 girls provided the space to express themselves on the pitch that will be rolled out across five counties: Montserrado, Bong, Margibi, Rivercess, and Sinoe.
The initiative aligns directly with the LFA Women’s Football Strategy Plan, specifically under the Grassroots and Youth Football Development Pillar (LITTLE PHENOMS), which seeks to increase the number of girls playing football at grassroots level.
“Women and girls deserve equal opportunities. Let their talents be shown and recognized. Let’s promote them and give them the space.” LFA 3rd Vice President stated Madam Jodie Seton-Redi stated.
She called for stronger national support for women’s football and emphasized the critical need for women’s participation in major national sporting events.
It kicked off with an exciting open fun football festival that saw a turnout of over 300 passionate young players from various high schools in Montserrado County.
The girls took to the pitch to express their teamwork, enthusiasm, and love for football, discovering the joy of the sport through fun games and engaging interactions with current and former women’s football players and coaches.
This launch marks the beginning of a coordinated national effort one designed to elevate women’s football and empower girls to see potential in every moment they spend on the pitch.
