Monrovia-The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation, in partnership with the Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) and four national partners, the Female Journalist Association of Liberia (FeJAL), the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL), the Alliance for Peace, Justice and Human Rights (APJHR), and the National YoungWomen Political Council of Liberia (NYWPCL), on Wednesday , June 23,2026 officially launched the PeaceGen Project, a European Union-funded initiative aimed at strengthening the participation and leadership of women and young people in peacebuilding, transitional justice, memorialization, and accountability processes in Liberia.
Held at The Cape Hotel in Mamba Point, Monrovia, the launch convened representatives from the Government of Liberia, the European Union Delegation, civil society organizations, youth-led groups, development partners, and community leaders committed to advancing Liberia’s peace and governance agenda.
Funded by the European Union, with co-funding support from the Embassy of Ireland in Liberia, PeaceGen contributes to Liberia’s ongoing peace consolidation efforts by empowering women and young people as key actors in shaping a more inclusive and democratic future, in partnership with civil society organizations, community groups, and government stakeholders. It recognizes that sustainable peace requires addressing past legacies through dialogue, reconciliation, accountability, and preserving collective memory, while equipping future generations with skills to prevent the recurrence of violence in Liberia.
Running from January 2026 to January 2029, PeaceGen will connect the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda with transitional justice and memorialization efforts, creating inclusive spaces for dialogue, reflection, advocacy, and collective action for over 2,500 young people. However, the project will directly reach 5,000 persons. It aligns with Liberia’s National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security and contributes to global commitments under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250. PeaceGen is implemented across Bomi, Bong, Montserrado, Nimba, and Sinoe counties.
“Lasting peace in Liberia depends on the full participation of women and young people. Through its support to PEACEGEN, the EU is helping to ensure that they are not only part of the conversation, but are recognised as leaders in peacebuilding, reconciliation and democratic life. By creating space for dialogue, accountability and remembrance, this project helps connect transitional justice with the leadership of a new generation committed to peace.” said Anna BRZOZOWSKA, Governance Team Leader at the Delegation of the EU in Liberia.
Through collaboration with government institutions, civil society, youth networks, women’s rights organizations, and communities, the project will focus on:–their capacities for civic engagement, advocacy, and decision-making; Advancing transitional justice, reconciliation, and collective memory through inclusive dialogue, awareness-raising, and community-driven approaches that promote accountability and social cohesion; Fostering inclusive and intergenerational participation by creating platforms for youth engagement, storytelling, and collaboration between communities and decision-makers.
As part of its commitment to promoting public awareness and citizen engagement, the PeaceGen Project also convened a national radio discussion with project partners to introduce the initiative and create a platform for public dialogue on youth participation, women’s leadership, transitional justice, reconciliation, and sustainable peace in Liberia.

Kamara, Executive Director, Liberia Peacebuilding Office. The importance of inclusive participation and highlighted the critical role of women and young people in sustaining peace in Liberia. The launch reaffirmed the shared commitment of partners to strengthening Liberia’s peace architecture by linking lessons from the past with opportunities for a more inclusive and peaceful future.

Through capacity strengthening, dialogue platforms, advocacy, community engagement, and awareness initiatives, the project aims to strengthen women’s and youth participation in peacebuilding, promote awareness of transitional justice and memorialization, and support inclusive approaches to reconciliation, accountability, and sustainable peace in Liberia.
