Banjul, Gambia -The President of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL), Varmah Kamara, has issued a strong call for greater unity among member associations of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Africa.β€Žβ€Ž

Mr. Kamara urged African sports journalists to close ranks and strengthen collaboration, emphasizing that solidarity remains the continent’s greatest asset on the global stage.

β€Žβ€ŽSpeaking on Sunday, February 9, 2026, at the close of the 8th AIPS Africa Congress in Banjul, The Gambia, Mr. Kamara stressed that despite existing challenges and differing views, Africa must remain united in advancing its collective agenda at the AIPS Global level.β€Žβ€Ž

The four-day congress brought together member associations from across the continent to deliberate on key issues affecting sports journalism and Africa’s representation within the international sports media body.β€Žβ€Ž

According to the SWAL President, a cohesive and coordinated front will not only amplify Africa’s voice but also ensure that the continent’s shared goals and strategic interests are effectively pursued and protected.β€Žβ€Ž

Mr. Kamara’s call comes amid growing debates and heightened engagement ahead of the AIPS Global Congress and elections scheduled for April 10–14, 2026, in Lausanne, Switzerland.β€Žβ€Ž

He underscored that this is a defining moment for Africa and urged member associations to prioritize unity, dialogue, and strategic cooperation in shaping the future of sports journalism on the continent and beyond.
