-One Admits His Actions Against Leadership,Blames It on Leadership Failures
The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) has forwarded two of its members namely Thomas Roulhac of Freedom FM and Edwin Battaforyen of Truth FM to the Association’s Grievance and Ethics Committee over allegations considered inconsistent with the ethics and standards of the institution.
According to the leadership, the decision follows concerns surrounding a series of public statements and social media activities allegedly linked to the two members, which are said to have negatively impacted the image and cohesion of the association.
SWAL noted that the matter falls under Article 8(d) of its Constitution, which provides that:
“Any member of SWAL who goes contrary to the objectives of the association and involves himself/herself in dubious acts that bring the association into disrepute, including the misuse of SWAL resources, shall be subject to punishment by fine or suspension following investigation.”
The association stated that previous engagements and internal interventions aimed at addressing the concerns did not yield the desired outcome, prompting the leadership to forward the matter for formal review and determination by the Grievance and Ethics Committee.
SWAL further disclosed that the two members had previously been subjects of separate disciplinary reviews relating to professional conduct, matters which were resolved internally in accordance with the association’s procedures.
The Grievance and Ethics Committee, headed by veteran journalist Ernest McCay, has been mandated to conduct an independent investigation and provide recommendations consistent with the SWAL Constitution and established ethical guidelines.
The leadership emphasized that the action is intended to uphold due process, accountability, professionalism, and institutional integrity, while reaffirming that every member of the association remains subject to the rules, ethics, and constitutional framework governing SWAL.
Thomas Roulhac of Freedom FM, one of those being investigated his wrongdoing and called for equal treatment.
Commenting on SWAL release posted last evening, Roulhac said, “Before the investigation begins, I want to openly admit my actions against the leadership and ask for forgiveness.”
He justified that his actions were driven by anger because he believes that the leadership failed to stand for them as members.
He intoned, “I am prepared to face the investigation and will accept whatever decision is reached. However, I strongly urge the leadership to avoid selective justice or unequal treatment of its members. We are all members of SWAL so some people should not be treated like poster boys and girls while the others be overlooked.”
