Bong County- The Bong County Chapter of the Liberian National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has donated assorted food items to the Christ’s Children Orphanage and the family affected by a recent deadly fire incident in Gbarnga.

Presenting the donations on Saturday, the Bong County Field Officer of the LNRCS, Daniel Dorbor II along with his team, said the gesture was part of activities marking the celebration of Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Month.

The month of May is observed annually in all 192 member countries of the Red Cross Movement in honor of the birth month of the founder of the Red Cross, Jean Henri Dunant.

Although World Red Cross Day is officially celebrated on May 8, the Bong County Chapter chose May 23, 2026, to commemorate the occasion through humanitarian outreach to vulnerable people in the county.

Items donated to the Christ’s Children Orphanage included bags of rice, cooking oil, Vita, and mosquito nets, while the family of Mr. D Sam Baryougah Elliott Sr. received rice, oil, and Vita following the tragic fire incident that reportedly claimed the lives of two children.

The Red Cross team also extended heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved Elliott family, praying for God’s comfort and strength during their difficult time.

Receiving the items on behalf of the orphanage, Acting Coordinator Peter Sammie expressed appreciation to the Red Cross for the timely support.

Mr. Elliott, speaking on behalf of his family, also thanked the organization for identifying with them during their moment of grief, noting that the Red Cross has continued to stand with communities in times of hardship.
