— As Justice Kebede Acknowledged Liberia’s Participation
Addis Ababa -Liberia’s Chief Justice, Yarmie Gbeisay, is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as part of the Liberian Supreme Court’s effort to formalize its membership in the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa (CCJA).
Posting on his official Facebook page, Chief Justice Yarmie Gbeisay said his visit marks a significant step in strengthening Liberia’s engagement with continental judicial bodies committed to promoting constitutional governance, rule of law, and human rights across Africa.
Chief Justice Gbeisay was officially pinned by His Honor Tewodros Mihret Kebede, the Chief Justice of Ethiopia.
Justice Kebede, welcomed Liberia’s participation and highlighted the importance of collaboration among African constitutional courts.
The symbolic pinning ceremony signifies Liberia’s integration into the continental judicial community.
Chief Justice Gbeisay expressed deep honor at representing the Supreme Court of Liberia on the international stage as the nation joins 49 member states at the Second International Symposium of the CCJA.
“Today I was pinned by the Chief Justice of Ethiopia, His Honor, Tewodros Mihret Kebede, as Honorary member of the Supreme Court bench. I am honored to move the Supreme Court of Liberia on the International Scene of Justice as we joined other 49 members states for the Second International symposium Conference of Constitutional Jurisdiction of Africa ( CCJA) which was established as part of the broader efforts to consolidate the rule of law , democracy, and human rights in Africa, in line with the African Union’s goals.” Chief Justice Gbeisay added.
He emphasized that Liberia’s participation aligns with broader African Union goals to consolidate democracy, human rights, and good governance.
By joining CCJA, Liberia strengthens its voice in continental justice reforms and reaffirms its commitment to upholding constitutional principles across Africa.
Kebede was appointed as President of the Supreme Court and Constitutional Council of Inquiry of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia since January 17, 2023.
