As part of an effort to further strengthen audit capacity at the House of Representatives, the House on Friday ended a two day training workshop.

Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon speaking on the Risk-Based Internal Audit (RBIA) Cycle: Highlight on Global Internal Audit Standards, reaffirming the Legislature’s commitment to strengthening fiscal oversight, accountability, and risk management systems within the House of Representatives.

The training, held in the Speaker’s Conference Room, focuses on building staff capacity and enhancing the adoption of a risk-based approach to internal auditing practices.

 Speaker Koon also said the importance of strengthening internal systems to ensure transparency, accountability, and improved institutional performance across the Legislature.

Mr. Emmanuel K.B. Togba, Director of the Department of Internal Audit of the Honourable House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia, noted that the initiative is intended to reduce audit inefficiencies while improving the House’s capacity to identify, assess, and effectively manage key financial and operational risks.

As part of the program, Bong County District 1 Representatives Prince Koinah  facilitated discussions on the second day of the training, presenting on Ethics, Governance, and Leadership, highlighting the critical role of ethical standards and sound governance in strengthening institutional integrity.

Additionally, Atty. Augustine G. Chenoway, President of the ACFE-Liberia Chapter, is serving as one of the facilitators for the capacity-building initiative, contributing expertise to support the strengthening of internal audit practices.

Mark N. Mengonfia is a Liberian journalist with 16 years of experience in the field of journalism. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass communication, Correspond for The Associated Press and is currently a master’s degree candidate studying International Development.
