Praia, Cabo Verde-The ECOWAS Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission, led by Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, PhD, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, has commenced on 3rd march 2026, high-level engagements in Cabo Verde ahead of the forthcoming legislative and presidential elections. The mission kicked off with a briefing session at the ECOWAS Permanent Representation in Cabo Verde, hosted by Ms Kelly Lopes, followed by a courtesy call on H.E. Jorge do Livramento, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, to introduce the mission and discuss the institutional framework and national preparedness for the electoral process.

The delegation also visited the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre – Zone G, where it was received by Captain Abdoulaye Dieng, Coordinator of the Centre, and his team, underscoring the broader governance and stability context within which the elections will take place.These initial consultations form part of a structured process to assess the pre-electoral environment in a comprehensive and inclusive manner. In the coming days, the Mission will engage with electoral management bodies, political parties, civil society actors, regulatory institutions and international partners.

Through this process, ECOWAS seeks to strengthen dialogue, foster confidence and contribute to an environment conducive to peaceful and credible elections, in line with the Community’s Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
