Paynesville -Tension gripped parts of Lower Johnsonville on Tuesday as scores of angry residents from the Du-Neezo community staged a protest over the deplorable condition of the Jacob Town to Weins Town road, asserting it causes serious harm to residents.‎

The protest, held at Lonestar Junction, brought together elders, community leaders, and citizens from more than ten communities within Du-Neezo, a locality in District Two.

Demonstrators described the road as a death trap and called on the national government to urgently intervene.

‎According to community members, the poor condition of the road has severely hindered access to emergency services, leading to tragic consequences.

‎A community leader told reporters that the situation has already resulted in two deaths, noting that victims died before they could be transported to the main road for further care.‎

Residents said the protest was not only intended to draw government attention to the worsening road condition, but also to express frustration over what they described as years of neglect by their district representative, Sekou S. Kanneh.

‎They accused the lawmaker of failing to effectively lobby for the rehabilitation of the road despite being in office for more than three years.‎

Beyond the road crisis, protesters also raised concerns about the lack of safe drinking water across the Du-Neezo belt, further compounding the hardship faced by residents.‎

Despite the tension, the protest remained peaceful, with demonstrators chanting and standing their ground in a show of unity and determination.

Many described the action as a bold move to expose neglect and demand accountability from both local and national authorities.

‎Residents are now calling for immediate intervention, warning that continued inaction could lead to more preventable deaths.

‎Tuesday’s demonstration highlights growing dissatisfaction among citizens in District Two, as pressure mounts on authorities to address critical infrastructure and basic service delivery challenges affecting thousands of residents.
