‎— Vowed Gender Equality & Equal Access to Justice

‎New York, USA -The government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, is participating in the United Nations 70th annual session of the commission on the status of Women currently taking place in New York, United States of America.‎‎

Gender Ministry Gbeme Horace-Kollie delivered Liberia’s official statement during the third sitting of the conference, which is being held under the theme: “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable laws, policies, and practices and addressing structural barriers”.

‎‎In her statement, Minister Horace-Kollie reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to promoting gender equality and ensuring equal access to justice for women and girls. ‎‎

She noted that the government has taken several legislative steps to eliminate discrimination and strengthen legal protection for women across the country. ‎‎

According to the Minister, Liberia has amended it’s nationality law to remove gender discrimination, allowing women to confer nationality on their children and spouses on the same basis as men. ‎‎

She added that the government continues to implement laws addressing rape, human trafficking, domestic violence, and Women and land rights, while also reviewing discriminatory laws to ensure compliance with constitutional and international standards.

‎‎Minister Horace-Kollie concluded by reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to working with international partners to advance equality, accountability, and justice for all women and girls in Liberia.
