โ€Ž– Seeks House Sensitive Protection from 4th Estates

โ€Žโ€ŽHouse Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has issued a formal apology to journalists who cover the House of Representatives.โ€Žโ€Ž

Speaker Koon said free and respectful press is important stressing the need of fostering renewed cooperation and seamless collaboration between lawmakers and the media.

โ€Žโ€ŽMaking the open apology Thursday, November 27, 2025, the House Speaker noted that strengthening collaboration will improve working relations between members of the Legislature and the media.โ€Žโ€Ž

“When we lack quorum at the time, and we notice most of our colleagues were joking, I try to protect the House as a Leadership Style. But howbeit, my counterpart, the press; you people I normally work with and sole respect, and took it otherwise. I think I was on the defensive and have to openly apologize to the press. I remain committed to you and ensure that I will work with you in any other way but I urge you to please help protect the sensitivity of this chambers”. Speaker Koon noted.โ€Žโ€Ž

Recently, Speaker Koon was heard on a loudspeaker threatening journalists covering the Legislature with possible detention during the 12th Day Sitting of the 3rd Quarter of the 2nd Session which sparked wild outraged raised alarm within the media community.โ€Žโ€Ž

Several groupings including Legislative Press Pool, the Press Union of Liberia and other media outlets took to their platform in condemning the act exhibited by Speaker Koon.โ€Ž
