Monrovia- The Liberia Land Authority is calling on the 55th National Legislature to provide stronger budgetary and legislative support to address the growing wave of land disputes across the country.
Speaking Tuesday before the House of Representatives, the LLA Vice Chairperson for Administration and Customer Services, Joe K. Williams, emphasized the urgent need for a nationwide boundary demarcation exercise covering all counties, districts, clans, and communities.
According to Honorable Williams, many of the traditional boundary markers, such as trees, streams, and other natural features are gradually disappearing, creating confusion and fueling disputes.
He stressed the need for a new national effort to properly demarcate boundaries and secure legal deeds for counties and districts.
Williams cautioned that failing to address longstanding land grievances could threaten the country’s hard-earned peace.
The Liberia Land Authority is therefore urging the Legislature to increase its budget and strengthen the institution’s capacity to prevent further tensions and ensure lasting stability.
