—- Businessman Described Gov’t Intervention in MNG Gold Mining Saga
A prominent citizen of District #1 in Bong County and businessman William F. Kotee Jr., has lauded the national government for what he described as speedy fast-tracking the dispatched officers from the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the Ministry of Labor to the MNG Gold Liberia’s David Dean’s Town mining site following growing concerns on the company’s alleged employment practices.
According to Mr. Kotee, the intervention comes after reports suggest that the company was allegedly hiring Turkish nationals as drivers instead of qualified Liberians, while also assigning PSU personnel to driving roles which violates the labor law of the country.
It follows growing concerns over the past several months in the company’s corridor of misinterpertating the labor law.
On April 23, 2026, the Liberia Immigration Service commenced an investigation into the number of Turkish nationals currently working at the site.
According to the investigation, about 18 Turkish nationals were officially brought into the country by MNG Gold Liberia.
However, sources claim the company may have more than 40 Turkish nationals at the mining site, with some allegedly entering Liberia without completing the proper immigration procedures.
Meanwhile, officials at the Ministry of Labor are reportedly examining job placements for both Liberian and Turkish workers, including salary structures and overall employment conditions.
Mr. William Kotee commended the Government of Liberia, through the Liberia Immigration Service and the Ministry of Labor, for their timely and farsightedness intervention at the MNG Gold Liberia.
The CEO of Menina Resorts noted that said action demonstrates not just the overall understanding of the law but that the concerns of affected community members will be addressed by the relevant authorities.
At the same time, Ministry of Labor officials are examining job placements for both Liberian and Turkish workers, including salary structures and overall employment conditions.
As it stands, the two institutions are currently touring several departments of the company, including the underground mining sections, as the investigation continues.
Businessman Kotee also acknowledged the people of District #1 lawful handling of such a matter responsibly and urged them to continue engaging in a peaceful and civil manner.
He, therefore called on residents and employees as well as authority of the MNG Gold Liberia to remain claimed as the investigation findings in progress.
