—- As Border Disputes Intensify within the Mano River Basin‎

‎Abuja, Nigeria -The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has expressed deep concern over rising tensions along the borders shared by the Republic of Guinea and its neighbours, the Republic of Liberia and the Republic of Sierra‎Leone.

‎‎In a statement issued on March 12, 2026, in Abuja, the regional bloc expressed deep concern over the escalating territorial disputes involving the three member states. ‎‎

To ease the tension, ECOWAS announced the deployment of a technical assessment mission to evaluate the situation, with particular focus on the long‑standing Yenga border area between Guinea and Sierra Leone.‎‎

The Commission also referenced recent developments along the Lofa border between Guinea and Liberia, noting that these incidents have introduced new layers of complexity to an already sensitive regional issue.

‎‎ECOWAS is calling on all parties to prioritize diplomacy and make full use of the organization’s mediation channels to ensure a peaceful and mutually acceptable resolution.

‎‎The regional body reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with national authorities to strengthen cooperation, preserve stability, and promote mutual respect within the Mano River Basin.
