….Cost of Equipment US $666,600.00

Part of 11 pieces of critical equipment presented to Public Works Ministry 

The World Bank with support to the Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP), has presented to the Public Works Ministry part of the 11 pieces of critical equipment procured to enhance drainage cleaning in Greater Monrovia. 

The equipment is valued over Six Hundred, Sixty-Six thousand United States Dollars included two backhoe loaders, five portable water pumps, four dump trucks.

Speaking Tuesday in Monrovia, Deputy Public Minister for Technical Services, Prince Tamba, noted that the equipment will be used toimplement the project’s intended purpose.

Minister Tamba then extended thanks and appreciation the World Bank through Liberia urban Resilience Project (LURP) for the equipment but stated that the Ministry is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the additional equipment.

“On behalf of the Minister of Public Works, Honorable Roland Layfette Giddings, we whole hearted accept the keys of these equipment delivered to us by the Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP). We believed this will take us, our operations far, and will make us more efficient in termed of drainage cleaning, and in termed of response time in flooding activities across Greater Monrovia”, he noted.  Minister Tamba also spoke of instances, where other agencies will come to Ministry of Public Works to even barrow trucks, other equipment to able them to response to flooding and to response to the issue of waste collection.  

He further narrated that equipment will really take the Public Ministry in the direction where the Ministry will response quickly not only in response but will help in the institution’s routine and periodic maintenance in some of the work the Ministry can do.

Minister Giddings also expressed thanks and appreciation to the supplier of the equipment, Family Line for uphold the agreement by delivering the equipment at this time, though there where some hiccups.

Speaking earlier after the keys of the two backhoe loaders was presented to the LURP Lead Civil Engineer, Joe Molue, he termed the presentation of the equipment as a milestone achievement for Public Works Ministry.

Mr. Molue said the equipment will enhance drainage cleaning operation and flood risks reduction in Greater Monrovia.

LURP Lead Civil Engineer: “Honorable Minister, these are the keys for the backhoe loaders and trucks, of course the water pumps are in the warehouse,  so on behalf Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP), we want to submit these keys to you, to be used to improve urban resilience  to reduce the risks of flooding in Greater Monrovia”.    

He also praised Family Line for supplying the equipment in keep with the agreement, despite some challenges.

The Liberia Urban Resilience Project is a six – year partnership between the Liberian Government and the World Bank to improve urban planning and flood and climate resilience in the country. 

The Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP) is a World Bank funded initiative aimed at increasing flood resilience and improving urban management in Liberia.

The Project, which became effective on 28 February 2023 and will run until 2028 focusing o enhancing flood risk management and community upgrading infrastructure in Greater Monrovia.  

The Project’s financing package includes a $40 million financing package from the International Development Association (IDA), with $20 million as a grant and $20 million as a credit.
