‎ The Liberian Senate has withdrawn a recently passed and widely publicized bill from the Office of the President after it had been submitted for signature, citing the need for further consultations and revisions.‎‎

The withdrawal affects two legislative instruments, including the Act to amending Chapter VI of the Public Authorities Law Creating the National Port Authority and the Seaport Decentralization and Modernization Bill.

‎‎In a formal communication to the President, the Senate said it had earlier worked on the bill following a presidential veto and at the request of the Executive, but has now resolved to recall the instruments for additional review.‎‎

According to the Senate, the decision followed a consultative meeting among its members, during which lawmakers agreed to incorporate additional views to strengthen the proposed port decentralization framework. ‎‎

The Senate said it intends to revise the bill and return it to the President within two weeks.‎‎

The President has since acknowledged the Senate’s request and returned the instruments as requested.
