Monrovia -‎‎The Liberian Senate has unanimously confirmed the nomination of Mr. J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr. as Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA).‎

According to a release from NaFAA, all 23 Senators voted in favor of the confirmation, with no votes against and no abstentions, reflecting strong legislative support for Mr. Saygbe’s leadership.

‎Mr. Saygbe appeared before the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Capitol Building, where he presented his vision for strengthening governance, sustainability, and economic growth within Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sector.‎

Senators praised his technical competence, policy clarity, and commitment to reform.‎

NaFAA was established by an Act of the Legislature in 2017 to regulate, manage, and promote sustainable development of Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture resources.

‎The Authority plays a role in food security, employment, environmental protection, and revenue generation, particularly within coastal and inland fishing communities.‎

NaFAA DG J. Cyrus Saygbe Expresses Gratitude to President Boakai following his confirmation by the Liberian Senate. ‎

After his confirmation, he  took to his social media account and expressed his  gratitude and humility and sincerely thank the President Joseph Boakai for the confidence reposed in him and for the unwavering support to the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

‎“I am deeply grateful to the Liberian Senate for the overwhelming vote of confidence for my confirmation, an affirmation that strengthens my resolve to serve with integrity, diligence, and purpose” he said.‎

He also thanked Board of Directors of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) for their guidance and leadership, and to his  NaFAA colleagues, whose professionalism, sacrifice, and teamwork he said continue to move the institution forward every day.

‎“I extend special thanks to the House and Senate Committees on Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry for their oversight, constructive engagement, and steadfast support to the growth and reform of Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sector” he said. ‎
