Monrovia -President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development through sports, announcing the establishment of football academies in Bong and Montserrado Counties.‎‎

The announcement was made during the President’s 2026 Annual Message to the 55th Legislature, where he highlighted the role of sports in promoting discipline, teamwork, unity, and national pride among young people.‎‎

According to President Boakai, the initiative will be implemented in partnership with Bea Mountain Mining Corporation and is designed to create structured pathways for talented young footballers to progress to national teams while encouraging professionalism within Liberia’s sports sector.‎‎

The academies are expected to serve as talent development hubs, targeting youth across the two counties, including at-risk young people, as part of broader efforts to use sports as a tool for social development and crime prevention.‎‎

The move marks one of the few direct references to sports in the President’s address and signals growing recognition of football’s potential to positively impact youth empowerment and national development.‎
