Monrovia -‎The National Port Authority (NPA) has launched its Occupational Health & Safety and Fire Prevention Program to improve safety and emergency preparedness across all port operations. ‎‎

Speaking on behalf of Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director for Operations, Emmanuel Horton, said the program shows the NPA’s strong commitment to putting safety first.

‎‎He explained that the initiative moves the Authority from reacting to accidents to planning ahead, ensuring that safety systems, equipment, and training are fully integrated into daily port activities.‎‎

Mr. Horton noted that the port is not only a center for trade but also a workplace where the lives of employees, contractors, and visitors must be protected. ‎‎

He noted that the program supports national laws, international maritime safety standards, and the government’s development agenda, while building a culture where everyone takes responsibility for safety.

‎‎Following his remarks, Mr. Erickson Trocon Brown Sr. explained that Occupational Health and Safety focuses on preventing accidents, injuries, and fires before they happen.

‎‎He maintained that the program applies to all port users and is built on clear policies, risk management, emergency preparedness, training, and continuous improvement. ‎‎

Mr. Brown added that the program, supported by key national and international partners, marks a new safety standard for the NPA and sets an example for infrastructure safety in Liberia.
