BUCHANAN โThe Bassa Detachment of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested a 61 year-old Michael Wallace, a well-known taxi driver in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. โโ
Michael Wallace was apprehended with one plate of cocaine weighing 1kg and valued at USD 54,000, along with 19 compressed parcels of marijuana weighing 12.7kg and valued at USD 1,270, found onboard his taxi marked TX 11686.โโ
Speaking to reporters following the arrest, Special Agent Grade 2 Frederick T. Theo, Commander of the Grand Bassa County LDEA, explained that Mr. Wallace was taken into custody at 5:19 PM on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Owens Grove checkpoint after the agency received a tip-off. โโ
He confirmed that Wallace, who is of the Grebo tribe, would be formally charged and forwarded to court.โโ
During questioning, Mr. Wallace claimed that an unknown man at the ELWA Junction in Monrovia gave him a carton supposedly containing eggs to transport to Buchanan.โโHe said he did not check the contents.
According to Wallace, upon arriving at the Owens Grove checkpoint, he was stopped by officers of the Liberia National Police, who informed him they had received information that drugs were being transported in his vehicle.โโ
A subsequent search by LDEA officers revealed that the โeggsโ were actually cocaine and marijuana.
Wallace told reporters he had never seen the individual who gave him the carton before but was instructed that he would receive a call upon arriving in Buchanan to deliver it thus expressing regret for his actions and pleaded for forgiveness.โโ
Special Agent Theo confirmed the total street value of the seized drugs to be USD 55,270, equivalent to 10,501,300 Liberian dollars (ten million, five hundred one thousand, three hundred Liberian dollars).โโ
Mr. Wallace, a popular taxi driver engaged in the local transportation business, is expected to be formally charged following the LDEAโs preliminary investigation.
