Conakry, Guinea-The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), through its Directorate of Environment and Natural Resources and in partnership with Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), recently convened a Regional Technical Validation Workshop in Conakry, Guinea, from 8–10 June 2026.

The Conakry’s Validation Workshop was to  revise Forest Convergence Plan (FCP) for 2026–2035.

A dispatch from the three days said the workshop brought together forestry and wildlife experts from ECOWAS Member States, development partners, and civil society to strengthen regional cooperation on sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Dr. Kalilou SYLLA, highlighted the urgent need to address deforestation, climate change, and biodiversity loss across West Africa. The revised FCP aligns with the ECOWAS Vision 2050 and integrates emerging priorities such as climate resilience, gender inclusion, and support for local communities, reinforcing the region’s commitment to protecting its forests and natural resources for future generations.
