Several 2024 flood-Affected Communities (Rubber factory, Brooklyn and Frog Island) in Gbarnga, Bong County, have expressed gratitude to Economic Communities of west African State (ECOWAS) humanitarian response, as well as the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and the Liberia National Red Cross Society, for providing cash transfers to flood-affected most vulnerable in the Gbarnga, Bong County.
The initiative, funded by ECOWAS and implemented by the Liberian Red Cross in collaboration with National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) is part of a broader project titled “Strengthening Resilience and Supporting Disaster-Affected Populations in Liberia.“
Launched in July 2025, the project aims to restore livelihoods, reduce vulnerabilities, and build long-term community resilience among disaster-affected populations.
Each flood-affected vulnerable person received USD 250 to restore their livelihood.
The cash transfer program targets the most vulnerable households, includingsingle mother with children under 5yrs, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Beneficiaries of the program, who spoke to journalists on a recent occasion, expressed their appreciation to ECOWAS, the Liberia National Red Cross Society, and NDMA for providing them with USD 250 each to restore their livelihood.
The ECOWAS humanitarian response to the floods in Bong County, Lofa, Montserrado and Cape month, has brought hope and relief to affected communities.
The cash transfer program has provided a lifeline to 1,820 families, enabling them to rebuild their lives and recover from the devastating impact of the floods.
The initiative serves as a model for effective humanitarian response and sustainable development in Gbarnga, Bong County.
