‎Ten officers of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency have been tested positive for the drug according to the agency’s latest report totalling it to 16 since the fight took a turn.

‎Speaking during a press conference Monday at their headquarters in Sinkor, the Officer-In-Charge of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency DCP. Fitzgerald T.M. Biago said since the launch of a compulsory drug test program for officers across the country on September 1, 2025, four county officers were tested.

‎According to him, in Bong County, 36 officers were tested; Nimba County, 56 officers were tested; Grand Bassa County, 50 officers were tested; Montserrado County, 170 officers were tested, and Margibi County, 55 officers were tested, bringing the total number to 406 officers tested since his ascendancy at the institution.

‎The Deputy Commissioner of Police and Officer-In-Charge stressed that of the 406 officers tested, 10 were tested positive of drug bringing to 16 officers since the process began.

‎”On September 1, 2025, we also launched a compulsory drug testing program for all LDEA officers. In continuation of our drive to clean the LDEA, I’m pleased to announce the results of the drug test conducted in the following counties: Bong County, Agent Sunday B. Quato, Margibi County, Agent Kabah Walker and Agent David Diamond, Nimba County, Agent Mathew Vaisse, Montserrado County, Agent Mariama Keita, Agent Robertson Boakai, Agent Edwind Flomo, and Agent Authur Benson have been suspended indefinitely and referred to the LDEA Professional Standards Board.” He added.

OIC Biago maintained that the exercise aims to set and maintain a professional and accountable standard within the LDEA saying those who fight drugs must do so with clean hands.

‎At the same time, key administrative reforms have been initiated under Biago to align the LDEA with other law enforcement agencies and bring back dignity to that security body.

‎Reviewing the agency’s policies and establishing proper administrative procedures and protocols; rotating county commanders who have overstayed; and rebuilding public trust for stronger community engagement were reforms carried out under the current leadership of the LDEA to strengthen and restore dignity once again.

‎Meanwhile, 178 drug traffickers and dealers have been forwarded to court for prosecution.

Accordingly, the suspects were arrested across the 15 counties of Liberia of which 55 are females and 123 are males. With this, 113 were Liberians, 7 Guineans, 1 Nigerian, 6 Ivorians, and 3 Sierra Leoneans.

‎The Deputy Commissioner of Police now Officer-In-Charge of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency disclosed that during the rig, six vehicles and 10 motorbikes were impounded, and two houses remain in LDEA custody pending the adjudication of respective cases.

‎He said the age of suspects involved in these drug crimes ranges from 18 to 70 years.

‎DCP Biago, however, maintained that following careful analysis of the confiscated drugs, Marijuana and Kush remain the most consumed drugs in Montserrado County while Tramadol, Kush including Marijuana are most common in the leeward counties.

‎Fitzgerald T.M. Biago noted that since his appointment to lead the LDEA and direct the national fight against illicit drugs, the Agency is making meaningful progress thus lauding the national government, partners, and officers of the entity adding their hard work clearly demonstrates the war against drugs can be won but with residents joining and alarming the case will help eliminate the menace from society.
