Grand Bassa Superintendent Karyou Johnson has secured ArcelorMittal Liberiaโ€™s commitment to support the Technical Division of Grand Bassa University, guaranteeing funds and manpower development for the countyโ€™s youth.

In a meeting with AML management on Wednesday, November 19, Superintendent Johnson emphasized the importance of building local capacities, noting that technical skills are essential for employment in major companies like ArcelorMittal.

โ€œBefore the close of ArcelorMittalโ€™s 25 years of operations, our Administration would appreciate seeing many young people technically equipped to occupy essential positions in Mittal and other companies,โ€ Sup. Johnson stated.

Grand Bassa University, established in 2008 as Liberiaโ€™s first community college, has an Engineering College that requires substantial support.

Responding to the Superintendentโ€™s request, AMLโ€™s Head of Sustainability and Extended Relations, Marcus Wleh, confirmed the availability of US$50,000 to improve academic activities, specifically targeting technical programs rather than administrative costs.

Grand Bassa University, established in 2008 as the countryโ€™s first community college under former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has an Engineering College that Superintendent Johnson highlighted as needing extensive support to benefit youths and the wider community.

In addition, AML revealed plans to establish a TVET institution in Grand Bassa, similar to the one in Yekepa, Nimba County, to further accelerate technical skills training. Construction and full setup of the institute are expected to be completed within two years.

The Superintendentโ€™s engagement and AMLโ€™s response mark a significant step toward expanding technical education and empowering the countyโ€™s youth with the skills needed to contribute to Liberiaโ€™s workforce.
